We never had a gameplan, really...I guess it was way back in 1995 - seems like an eternity now - but when we got our hands on that 1st copy of Netscape 1.0 - we were hooked! One page became one site became a few - all done on one lowly IBM Aptiva...We remember thinking - Wow! What if we could put this database stuff online?! (Mind you, we were only thinking about this at that time because one of us, Gonzalo Miranda, is into that type of thing.) We won't bore you with the details - I guess it suffices to say that we have grown into something quite special: a small, friendly, high-end design and data juggling web shop that treats every project like our very first page... um... except now we really know what we're doing! - and we have more computers.
Gonzalo Miranda
"Data Artist," Gonzalo Miranda is a modern day Renaissance Man. He is, and has been, many things including, but not limited to: Jeweler, Traveler, Photographer, Consultant, Hardware Fixer, Web Designer and Software Programmer.
Born in Havana, Cuba, but raised mostly here in Miami, Gonzalo ran a jewelry store in Downtown Miami for over 10 years. In 1992 he closed the doors and traveled extensively in Europe and America, learning the "photographic ropes" along the way. After returning to Miami in 1994, he established a loyal, local clientele shooting mostly large format (4X5) commercial photography as well as local runway fashion shows. Today, photography remains one of the services that Alaskan Star offers to clients - for print or website.
He started programming in 1994 by revamping a client management program (and eventually completely redoing it) written in Foxpro 2.6 for DOS. Since then, he has added several languages and programming techniques to his bag of tricks, including Foxpro & Visual Foxpro (Mac and PC), Cold Fusion, HTML, Javascript, Pascal and a bevy of other digital tidbits. His current focus is designing database applications for the web and dynamic web sites.
